Namibia Ultra Marathon Success

Stuart Moore, one of the parents at Emmaus, has successfully completed the race to end all races on the Skeleton Coast of Namibia - one of the most arid and desolate places on the planet. The aim was to run 120km in 24 hours.

It makes last year's Three Peaks venture look like a walk in the park, but he did it for the same reason - to raise money to help the school extend and redevelop its premises.

He raised over £2000 for the school. Stuart's 'MyCharityPage' has now closed, but if you would still like to donate to the Building Fund, send a cheque made payable to 'Emmaus School' to the address at the bottom of the page.

Watch Blue Peter on May 6th as one of the presenters was also taking part.

Canal Visit

Back in the autumn, Class 2 visited Peter Atwill on his boat the Gospel Belle.

Peter - a former Pastor of Union Chapel in Bath - founded Canal Ministries 9 years ago and there are now 7 Canal boats that are used to take the gospel to those who live, work and relax on the waterways of England and Wales. After the visit, the children had the chance to write about their visit - click here to see pictures of the visit and the children's own work for yourself.

More Athletic Success

On Saturday Jan 24th, Tabi Burgess ran in the Wiltshire County Cross Country finals at Grittleton House School. Despite not feeling well, Tabi ran very fast and came joint second in the county for

Year 7 girls. There are something like 43 secondary schools in the county so this was a great achievement.
Tabi has now been selected to represent Wiltshire in the South West of England Finals on
28th February at Taunton in Somerset. Tabi will run for Wiltshire against Cornwall, Devon,
Somerset, Avon, Dorset and Gloucester. If she gets in the top 15 she will be considered
to be national standard (In future years - year 8 upwards - the top 15 run in the National Finals).

Tabi has recently won two cross-country races representing Emmaus.

On November 20th, she beat 72 other runners to win the West Wiltshire Championships.

Then on November 26th, she came first out of 20 in a race to find the top 10 runners to compete in the County Championships in January. Click here to find out more

Bristol Disabled Christian Fellowship

On December 13th, pupils from the school sang to the DCF meeting at Philip St Church in Bristol. Click here to read one pupil's account of the day.

The new classroom is officially opened.

The building work on the new classroom is now complete and it was officially opened on Monday 24th November.

It was a wonderfully memorable occasion. Click here to read about what went on and see pictures of some of those who were involved.

Three Peaks Challenge

Many prayers were answered in the wonderful way that the Lord blessed the Three Peaks challenge undertaken by 6 climbers and 1 driver between the 19th and 21st of June. All those involved were kept safe and there wasn't a blister between them; there were no traffic hold ups and the team all got on really well. Best of all, around £6000 was raised towards the building project.

Ben Nevis looked nothing like the picture on the left. The top was shrouded in cloud and the climbers had to contend with snow and a strong wind when they reached the summit. To read more about their adventures and to see some pictures, click here

Governors and Helpers Meal

Each year the school serves up a meal to all those who help out in the life of the school as a way of saying "Thank you".

This year, we were treated to not only a lovely meal, but a piano and euphonium recital and a poem that covered just about everyone involved with the school. Read more...

Mrs. Wiltshire (Head teacher) writes:

"Thank you for your prayers and support during the recent OFSTED Inspection. I have read and commented on the draft report, and for OFSTED, it is a positively glowing report, and any areas highlighted for action were already on the school improvement plan.

It has taken nearly 3 years to get everything ready, and it is a great blessing and an answer to many prayers that everything went as well as it did. The report should be published in the next few weeks and as soon as it is, it will be posted on the School website for you to read.

Also, you may not be aware that we now have to pay for OFSTED inspections and the bill amounts to £1800! Your prayers for the ongoing finances of the School would be much appreciated."

Paint for Poverty!

This is a photo of the children who won 1st prize in the Wallace and Gromit colouring competition for Paint4Poverty.  Both Joanna and Abigail from Emmaus were among the winners.  The organisers want to say a very big thank you to all the children who took part.

£36,000 was raised for the local charity 'Robin Hood Ministries' who are based in Bradford-on-Avon. A representative is to visit the school and present Abigail and Joanna their picture and all the children with a certificate.

End of Year Service 2007

Monday 17th July saw the academic year come to a close with a lovely service where all the pupils contributed. It was a particularly significant occasion for three of the pupils; it was their last such event as they are moving on to other schools. Read more...
