About Emmaus School

The History of the School
The very existence of the school is an answer to prayer in bricks and mortar. The school started after an anonymous donor offered to loan the money to purchase a recently vacated Victorian school building in Staverton, near Trowbridge.

Some 20 years earlier, Christians in Bradford on Avon, a nearby town, had been praying about the provision of Christian education, little realising how the Lord would answer their prayers in His own time. The school now has over 65 pupils and in a way has become a victim of its own success – the buildings are now bursting at the seams, figuratively at least.

If you would like to know the story in more detail, there is a chapter about Emmaus in a book called "The Love of God in the Classroom". It is published by Christian Focus and is available from Amazon.co.uk

The philosophy of Emmaus School

The school starts with the understanding that men, women and children are made in the image of almighty God. Accordingly, the teachers seek to establish an atmosphere of mutual respect, recognising how precious and special human life is. Children and teachers are fallen and sinful, but we have a pattern set for us, that of the Lord Jesus Christ who is God the Son.
