"Many, O Lord my God are the wonders you have done" Psalm 40 v 5
|
End of Year Service The children sang a number of hymns - perhaps the most moving of which was "Go in Peace" set - unaccompanied and in parts - to part of Dvorak's New World symphony. Paul Mackey - a parent of one of the leavers - spoke of the fact that whilst we change over time, God doesn't; while we may forget others as time goes on, God doesn't. God also knows us intimately - he sees us as we are. This was particularly aimed to encourage those who were leaving. Those pupils were allowed to choose their favourite hymns for the service and read their favourite passages of Scripture. The service ended with the youngest children singing the words of the blessing from Numbers 6 v 24-26 "The Lord bless you and keep you and make his face shine upon you." Presentations were then made to the leavers; certificates were also presented to those who had successfully completed the recent cycling proficiency course. A surprise was then sprung by Mrs Mackey who presented gifts to all those in the school who had helped get her son through his GCSEs. Mrs Wiltshire closed the evening with some encouraging news. The Faith Schools Inspectorate - something Emmaus has been keen to see come in to place for some time - is a step closer; it now just needs the signature of the Secretary of State. At present, Emmaus is inspected by OFSTED like every other school. The FSI would mean that it would be inspected by those who understand the workings of faith schools. There was also encouragement from news that the Lord has provided for a new pupil to start in September. As ever, the end of year service was a fitting way to bring the academic year to a close - looking back and giving thanks to God for his goodness and looking forward with anticipation to what He has planned for the future.
