"Be joyful always; pray continually;

give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

1 Thessalonians

5 v 16-18

     A message from Daniel Jarvis

I have been at Emmaus for 5 years and in those 5 years a lot has changed

When I started at Emmaus there were only 6 people in the senior class including myself, and last year I was one of 17. These past 5 years were the best of my school life so far, simply because the atmosphere and size of Emmaus allows you to get to know and have fun with everyone around you, without putting pressure on or compromising your Christian beliefs. When I have told people outside the school how small Emmaus is, I think the most common response was to say, ‘That must be a bit awkward if you don’t get along with someone’ but its not been like that at all, there was no one that I didn’t get along with; of course there have been rough patches but we are all good friends in the long run, I hope.

After Hannah and Douglas left it felt like the end of an era for me, and when I look back, the seniors at Emmaus will always be the famous five; Hannah, Doug, Chloë, Ashley and myself, but change came and I have had just as much fun with the new pupils at Emmaus. I have thoroughly enjoyed my last two years at the school and being at Emmaus has definitely made it easier to cope with my exams, I think Naomi doing her GCSE’s at the same time as me did a whole load of good for me, but I’m not sure I managed to return the favour.

Next year, I will be studying ‘Sport and Exercise Science’ at Bath college, from there I will have a number of choices for where to take my career including nutrition, sports coaching, fitness instructing and physiotherapy but at the moment I feel the best option for me is Teaching PE at a school or schools. It’s a bit different from what I’ve done at Emmaus but that most definitely does not mean that it hasn’t prepared me for my future.

The school has had a big impact on me, and it has helped me to grow in terms of faith, education, ability, interaction and probably more ways than I can think of. I like to think I have had some impact on the school but I’m not sure that broken doors and light shades count as a good impact.

Emmaus has been great! I hope when other pupils get to where I am they think the same thing, because through Mrs Wiltshire and the other teachers God is doing something really special!
